Project Runway: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I’m still waiting for my invitation to attend New York’s famed Fashion Week. Until then, I’ll continue to watch Season 9 of Project Runway. It’s a great escape after a long day’s work. Here are my design picks for the good, the bad and the ugly from what I’ve seen on this season’s Project Runway.

The Good: My favorite designers are Kimberly, Anja and Laura. As a practical fashionista, I admire the wear-ability of Kimberly and Anya’s designs.

The Bad: I’m not a fan of the off-the-wall challenges. I guess that’s the practical gal coming out in me. Can you say, scary stilt walkers?

The Ugly: Now, I’m a lover, not a hater, so it hurts me to diss any of the designs as i can only imagine how difficult it would be to create a fashion-forward look in one day. But there have been a few outfits that should have turned right around and left the stage.

WHAT TO WEAR ON YOUR ROAD TRIP

As Memorial Weekend approaches, you hear everyone asking, “so where are you headed for the holiday?” Even though gas prices are still hovering near $4 in many areas, that’s not stopping people from wanting to hit the open road. According to a recent AAA report, 34.9 million people will travel this holiday weekend and 9 out of 10 will be on the highway.

While budget airlines used to be inexpensive and convenient enough to replace car travel, today’s high-priced tickets, packed flights, schedule delays, long security lines and new fees are putting the car back in the front position for people who want to indulge in hassle-free travel. So that means two words: “road trip!”

Whether you’re in the car for a few short hours or a few long days, it’s always tricky to find that perfect road trip outfit. One that makes you look effortlessly chic no matter how long you’ve been sitting, but comfy enough you can easily sleep through the boring parts of the drive. So in an effort to find that, here are a few of my picks that I think are perfect for traveling by car.

You definitely want to choose clothes that are loose fitting, but still stylish. Try to lean towards items that are wrinkle free such as comfortable cotton or even spandex. Shoes such as sandals or flip flops are key. Not only are they easy to pack, but also they’re easy to slip off when in the car.

As for tops, a lightweight cardigan is excellent if you tend to get cold when your driver insists on having the A/C on high. This spring, cardigans seem to be popping up everywhere and have become more stylish than ever, so this is definitely a must! Also, don’t forget to pack a handbag that’s easy to sling over your shoulder if you do some walking around during your road trip, but also big enough to carry things such as Kleenex, snacks, cell phone, lipstick and your bottled water. All things crucial in completing your road trip look. Now go hit the road while looking good!
